The Journey From Glasses To Progressive Lenses

It?s funny how life?s milestones sneak up on you.

I?m not talking about the birthday milestone, although I had a birthday recently and I refuse to say how old I am. If I never admit it, it can?t be true, right? But that was last month. This month, it?s the eyesight milestone.

I ordered my first pair of progressive lenses from the Wal-Mart Vision Center this week. I like calling them progressive lenses much better than that other term: Bifocals. But the truth is, I?ve been having trouble reading fine print for years now.

I?ve made do with mono-vision contacts. One eye sees distances, the other sees up close. I only have to squint with one eye. I also have a pair of reading glasses that I keep in my purse for really, really small print.

For a while, I tried to get by with both contacts correcting my distance vision. I could see much better at a distance, but....
