Lasik Eye Surgeon Wins Malpractice Case
NEWARK -- A well-known Bergen County eye surgeon won a malpractice case in U.S. District Court on Friday against a Connecticut woman who alleged his surgery triggered eye problems that left her unable to drive or stay in bright daylight for long.
Dr. Joseph Dello Russo of Bergenfield called the jury's verdict a "victory for all good lasik surgeons who have taken a black eye for the past several years."
Emretta Hinman, 40, the woman who filed the suit two years ago, testified during the two-week trial that Dello Russo never explained the risks of the surgery before he operated on her in 2001, and then didn't take her subsequent complaints about vision problems seriously.
Hinman went for the surgery after hearing an ad for Dello Russo's lasik surgery on the radio.
