U.S. Supreme Court Declines To Hear Case On TN Optometrist Law
The U.S. Supreme Court today refused to hear a case seeking to throw out a 1967 Tennessee law about eye care.
The law prevents retail optical stores from hiring optometrists and offering so-called "one-stop shopping" for eye care.
The law allows optometrists in the state to sell eyewear in their offices, but bars national chains from leasing space to optometrists.
National retailers LensCrafters, U.S. Vision, Cole Vision and a trade association unsuccessfully challenged the law in U-S District Court in Nashville. The three retailers operate businesses with onsite optometrists and offer eye exams, eyewear, contact lenses and other products in one place.
